It turns out that my initial hasty comments about Vancouver or ’Techcouver’ were far from right. I’ve since found numerous projects and interesting work happening here.
I’m going to check out the Vancouver Start-up Career Fair that’s on in the city next week. Will be interesting to meet some up and coming folks who are currently hiring.
And yesterday I came across a cool place just down the road from where I’m staying called Workspace - it’s an uber cool shared office environment that offers flexible membership options rather than leases. You can be a member for a day, after hours only , monthly etc (and it’s affordable).
Even their website is cool. It made me really wish that I actually had some work to do in a shared office just so I could hang out there!
They have funky offices and an inhouse cafe that apparently serves the best coffee in town. Best of all they’re having what they call an ‘Open Coworking Day’ next week where you can go in and check it out for free (and coffee is on the house!). Alright!
Vancouver is one of my favourite cites. Melbourne/Wellington-ish but with a flair and pace that seemed ‘just right’ to me. It’s a shame about the Starbucks on every street corner!
